If you have troubles with your balance, have recently had a fall, or would like to socialise while getting some gentle exercise, our group programs offer a relaxed, supportive environment to improve your health and wellbeing.

We offer a number of programs across Queensland that are low cost or free.

Finding Your Feet – falls prevention for seniors
Townsville & Gold Coast

A mixture of physical activity and information, this program is for people who have had a fall or feel unsteady on their feet. Participants take part in a circuit of activity stations designed to improve balance, coordination, strengthen leg muscles, and most of all - prevent falls.

Townsville
This program runs in Townsville for 2 hours per week for 6 weeks, and includes a follow up consultation four weeks after the final class.
Cost: $30, including morning tea.

Gold Coast
This program runs on the Gold Coast for 2 hours per week for 8 weeks, and includes a follow up consultation four weeks after the final class.
Cost: Free.

Making Sense of Diabetes
Gold Coast

If you have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes this free program will provide you with evidence-based nutrition and exercise information to manage your condition in conjunction with your doctors. Each session includes a nutrition workshop and physical activity session run by accredited dietitian, physiotherapist and diabetes specialist. You’ll get practical ideas and suggestion to help you manage your diabetes, nutrition and exercise in a way that suits your lifestyle.

The program is run for 2 hours per week, for 4 weeks, in the Robina area.

Cost
Free with a referral from your GP, if you are over 18 and have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Tai Chi for Arthritis - gentle exercise
Townsville & Gold Coast

Based on the well-known Chinese martial art, our Tai Chi program has been designed by Dr Paul Lam in consultation with Tai Chi and medical experts to make it simple, safe and effective for people with arthritis. Improve your balance, strength and flexibility with this very gentle exercise.

Townsville
This program runs in Townsville for 1 hour per week for 8 weeks.
Cost: $20 for the program, including morning tea.

Gold Coast
This program runs on the Gold Coast for 1 hour per week for 8 weeks.
Cost: $5 per session.

Dominating Diabetes
Bundaberg

If you have type 2 diabetes mellitus, learn how to manage it effectively in this four hour program run over two weeks by our diabetes experts. This program runs for 2 hours on a Monday for 4 weeks for people in and around the Bundaberg area. We have morning and afternoon sessions available.

Cost
$10, and you will need a referral from your GP.

Motown Moves - aerobics class for seniors
Gold Coast

Motown Moves is a specially tailored exercise and wellbeing program designed to help you improve your endurance, strength, balance and flexibility. Developed by an Ozcare Physiotherapist, the program is designed to be fun and social, bringing you together with others for 1 hour each week for 8 weeks for a workout to Motown tunes.

Please bring a drink bottle, wear loose comfortable clothing and flat shoes suitable for exercising.

This program runs in Robina on the Gold Coast.

Lungs in Action – group exercise for those living with COPD
Bundaberg

This program is designed for people who have recently completed a pulmonary rehabilitation or heart failure rehabilitation program within the past 12 months. Join others for group exercise and maintain your fitness in a fun and safe environment.

The program runs twice per week on Tuesday and Thursday for total of 5 weeks. Each session is 1 hour from 10am to 11am.

Please bring a water bottle, closed shoes, mobility aids, and portable oxygen if you need it for exercise. You can also bring any pain relievers or medications you need, or take them prior to the class.

Cost
The program cost is $40, or you can pay $5 per session you attend. You will also need a referral from your GP or physiotherapist.

Reablement program – for seniors
Bundaberg

This 3 week educational program is for seniors who want to learn how to make home tasks easier, keep active and plan for the future.

  • Week 1 – remain safe and independent in your home with our occupational therapist
  • Week 2 – learn exercises to improve balance and keep fit with our exercise physiologist
  • Week 3 – hear about power of attorney and future planning with our social worker

Supported Aquatic Exercise – fun hydrotherapy sessions
Redcliffe

Our six week supported aquatic exercise program is run by a hydrotherapist or physiotherapist who take you through a range of exercises to help with your aches and pains. The warmth and buoyancy of the water is great for movement and helps get muscles going. This program runs in Redcliffe for 45 minutes each week.

Cost
$20 for an initial consultation and personalised exercise program. $8 per session thereafter.

Dates
Starts from September 2015 and runs each Thursday from 11am - 12pm at the Redcliffe Health Precinct.

Tai Chi for Health
North Lakes

Tai Chi is easy and enjoyable, and can provide you with many health benefits quickly and safely. Medical studies have shown Tai Chi to help with strength, balance, and flexibility, and can even help people with arthritis to reduce their pain.

The movements are modified to your needs, and can be performed standing, seated, or standing with support.

Classes are run on Tuesday mornings with a small number of participants to ensure you get the support you need.

Please wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear, and bring a towel, water, and any medications you require.

Cost

Fit Fantastic - exercise classes
Redcliffe

Fit Fantastic is a 45 minute low impact exercise class that works on strengthening, fitness, coordination, posture, balance, and flexibility. Our classes are designed to make you feel better and ensure you have fun while getting active.

Join our program where you will work with our exercise physiologists to complete a circuit that is suited to your fitness level.

Classes are run on Tuesday mornings and are small and personalised so that we can assist you to become fitter, healthier, and stronger safely.

Please wear comfortable exercise clothing and appropriate footwear, and bring a towel, water, and any medications you may require.
