Respite Care

Help for Queensland carers

If you're caring for someone, taking a break or even just finding time to manage your household isn't always easy.

We can help by coming to your home, or another place in the community, and taking care of the person you care for, while you attend appointments, have some time to yourself, study, or do paid work.

Respite services are available during the day and overnight, and are completely flexible to your needs. They can be scheduled on an ongoing basis, or used for a short time while you need a bit of extra help. We can also help in an emergency when you need care immediately.

Our experienced team of carers can assist you with a range of tasks while they are there, including:

  • Meal preparation and cooking
  • Cleaning, washing up, and other domestic chores
  • Transport and outings in the community
  • Personal care such as showering and dressing
  • Playing games and doing craft

Other respite care services

  • Day respite centres
Ozcare has eight day respite centres around Queensland available to seniors who are looking to meet new people and have some fun. Our centres are open during the day from Monday to Friday, with extended hours available to people living with dementia.
  • Residential respite care
All of our ten aged care facilities offer residential respite services, where you can move temporarily into an aged care facility for a few days or a number of weeks. This is often used by people who have returned from hospital and need more complex care, whose carers are away on holiday, or as a trial to see what life is like at an aged care facility.

Our approach to respite care

With 20 years’ of experience working with seniors, our team of carers offer specialised respite at home, at one of our eight day respite centres, or temporary residential respite in our aged care facilities around Queensland. Our respite services are designed to support carers to take a break, attend appointments, complete study, or attend paid work.

Costs & Eligibility

Our home aged care services are available to seniors over the age of 65, (or over 50 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders).

The cost of your services will be determined by your eligibility for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) or a Home Care Package (HCP). Depending on your circumstances you may not need to pay anything at all.

If you’re not eligible for CHSP or a home care package, you can still access services through privately funded services, where you meet the full cost of care yourself.
