MORE AGED CARE BEDS - MORE JOBS FOR THE REGION

Ozcare has more than doubled the size of its Aged Care Facility at Port Douglas, offering much needed increases in Aged Care accommodation and jobs for the Port Douglas, Mossman and the Far North Region.

Ozcare Port Douglas Director of Nursing, Christine Mulligan says that the facility now provides 74 aged care beds - all with 24 hour care, 7 days a week - and is actively recruiting for an extra 35 staff to fill positions across the facility.

“We want to let the community know that we have extra accommodation and extra jobs available.

“Ozcare is the leading residential Aged Care provider in the area and the only one in Mossman and Port Douglas.

“Ozcare Port Douglas provides all levels of Aged Care, with low care through to high care and special care needs being met – all in the one facility.

“We provide different levels of care to suit people whose needs range from those needing a little assistance to live independently (Low Care), to those who need higher levels of assistance in everyday living (High Care), to those with dementia and their special needs (Special Care).

“In answer to a long-standing cry from the community, we are able to offer ‘ageing in place’ whereby people can remain in the familiar surroundings of Ozcare Port Douglas, with added levels of care as their needs increase - however, it is not a ‘retirement village’ and residents need to be referred by the Aged Care Assessment Team,” Ms Mulligan says.

The new facility is set in beautifully landscaped gardens, close to Four Mile Beach.

Ms. Mulligan describes the new facility as modern and well-equipped for comfort and care.

“The majority of rooms are single with ensuites, and there are some shared rooms.

“There are spacious lounge and dining facilities with modern, stylish furnishings and all the up-to-date equipment necessary to provide care for residents.

“We have good access to medical practitioners and allied health services including podiatry, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

“Residents enjoy a diverse and stimulating activities program and we have volunteers who visit regularly to add further interaction and interest.

“Importantly, all meals are cooked on site, in a modern, well equipped kitchen,” she says.

Ozcare’s expansion also means great news for the job market.

Ms Mulligan says, “We are doubling the number of Staff at the facility and there are opportunities for positions such as a Clinical Nurse Consultant, Registered Nurses, Personal Carers, Support Workers, Activities Officers, Laundry, Domestic, Kitchen and Maintenance Staff.

“We can now supply on-site accommodation.

“We value our staff and provide them with a supportive environment to help them achieve their goals.”
