$3m Increase in Home & Community Care for the Gold Coast

Timed to coincide with ‘HACC’ Awareness Week, Ozcare held a function and Information Session this week to create awareness of Home and Community Care (HACC) Services that will be increasing across the Gold Coast Region, thanks to a massive $37m injection of annual funding.

Clinical Nurse Manager, Kate Dobbie, said that Ozcare held the event to let the Community know details of the HACC program and how it can be accessed.

“HACC is jointly funded by Commonwealth and State Government - over 14,000 people in the Region are currently receiving support - a number set to expand with this year’s increase in funding.

“The program provides a range of services for people of all ages and assessment for eligibility is not income or assets-based.

“With the increased funding, Ozcare will be able to provide more services including domestic assistance, social support, personal care, nursing care, allied health services, home maintenance and transport,” she said.

“These services can make a huge positive difference to people’s lives, helping them to manage better.

HACC area manager, June Wells addressed the function saying that this year’s increase of $3m on the Gold Coast would boost the number of people who could access the services.

Ms. Dobbie said that she hoped those attending the event would pass on the information about HACC services availability to the community, so that those who need the services will access them.

“I would encourage individuals and family members to make enquiries with Ozcare as they may be missing out on support that’s available to them to help them to manage better.

“Many people wait until there’s a crisis before finding out what’s available, whereas support for maintenance of health and well-being now, may help in preventing a crisis in the future.

“A phone call to Ozcare can help people to find out what’s available in the community – if someone is not eligible for HACC services, we can work with them to find something that will help,” Ms. Dobbie said.
