Free Training Course for Jobs in Transport

Ozcare’s Bush Connection is holding a free training course in Goondiwindi on 15 and 16 September 2008, to help rural people looking for work to upskill, ready for employment in the transport industry.

Ozcare’s Employment and Training Co-odinator Les Long said the course will give participants the perfect opportunity to obtain or upgrade their licences, so they can find work driving trucks and other heavy vehicles.

“There are many jobs available in the transport industry at the moment.

“As part of obtaining upgraded drivers’ licences, this course provides participants with training in current regulations, safety, handling of dangerous goods, vehicle maintenance, trip planning and hands-on training.

“Those who complete the course can then access assistance with preparation for interviews and job search techniques through the Bush Connection Employment and Training Service.

“Many rural people have the skills suitable for work such as truck driving and other associated transport industry work, but they may need to obtain licences as well as training in areas such as safety, to be employable.

“Places are limited so early registration is advised,” Mr. Long said.

The course is funded by the Queensland Government Department of Employment and Industrial Relations under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative.
