Ozcare Support for Independent Living
Many older Seniors prefer to stay at home as they age, and are able to do so with support from community-based programs and services.
With help from Ozcare, people from Mackay and the surrounding areas can remain living in the comfort of their homes with in-home care and health care services which are flexible to suit individuals and their changing needs.
Ozcare Co-ordinator Donna Lee said that Ozcare has received more funding for Home and Community Care (HACC) services and an increase in the number of aged care packages available in the region.
“Many people wait until there’s a crisis before finding out what’s available, whereas in-home support now may help to prevent a crisis in the future.
“We can begin with an assessment of what is needed to help the person, then Ozcare can provide a diverse range of services.
“For example, we can provide respite and personal care, seven days a week if it’s needed.
“Our services complement each other and clients can progress through different levels of care as their needs change, giving them all-round support for independent living, well-being and health care,” Ms Lee said.
Clinical Nurse Manager Keryn Brant said that Ozcare’s services give people the advantage of accessing nursing and health services in the privacy and convenience of their own homes.
“We can help with sensitive health issues such as continence assessment and management, and help people to access subsided continence aids.
“Similarly, we can provide wound care and treatments at home with savings on the costs of dressings and transportation.
“Other health services Ozcare offers in the region include Allied Health and Mental Health services, and support for people with dementia and their carers.
“Ozcare services work together to ensure that the care provided is well co-ordinated.
