Wound Management
Ozcare Community Nurses and Allied Health staff provide specialist services for wound care, leg ulcers and stomal therapy. Ozcare’s highly qualified staff assess and treat acute or chronic wounds and provide advice on future prevention. The Toowoomba Leg Club allows people to manage their leg ulcers in an informal, social environment. It has been formed through a collaborative approach by a partnership of Division of General Practice and other community providers and the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA). The Toowoomba Leg Club is a ‘Club’ with members, organised and run by the local community with the support of Ozcare staff and other health professionals. The Leg Club is held on a drop-in basis at the QCWA Rooms. People are treated with an emphasis on peer support and empathy, where positive attitudes to health are promoted. Research has shown that the benefits of Leg Clubs include better healing and reduction in recurrence rates, with the social interaction helping isolated people integrate into their communities – an overall improvement in the person’s quality of life. |
