Mental Health Recovery

The Mental Health Recovery Program provides independent living skills and social support to men and women, aged between 18 and 64 years of age who are not acutely ill, have a moderate to severe mental illness and who are living in the community.

The program operates as part of a network of services which guides and supports the client through the process of recovery from mental illness.  The objective is to maximise the client’s independent functioning and social competence in a community setting, having regard to the client’s changing needs over time.

Average participation in the program is between six and nine months but this will vary, having regard to each client’s needs.

The outcome of the program is to maximise the individual’s potential for independent living and greater community participation.  This is achieved through a recovery framework, in partnership with the client, family, carer and other mental health service providers.

The Recovery Program develops partnerships and networks with service providers which support independent living and social support.

The client is supported by connection to these community networks.  Support may include providing skills to assist with
  • Shopping and preparing a healthy diet
  • Developing appropriate independent living skills
  • Job readiness skills
  • Finding appropriate accommodation
  • Setting up a bank account and budgeting
  • Establishing social links
  • Accessing recreational activities and other services
