Goodna Integrated Family Support
The Goodna Integrated Family Support Program (GIFS) provides a free service to support eligible children and families in the Goodna area. The program helps children and their families to access health and family support services to make positive changes to their lives. GIFS works in partnership with local schools, specialist community and Government servicesGIFS supports children and their parents by:
- Helping parents to locate services available to them in the local area.
- Providing parents with additional parenting skills.
- Helping children’s challenging behaviours by providing support, skills and strategies for positive, lasting change.
- Working to reduce the number of children entering statutory care with the Department of Child Safety.
- Working with Government and community services to offer a holistic approach to client care through collaborative case management.
Services provided include:
- Counselling (children and their parents)
- Referral to specialist services (ie legal issues)
- Advocacy
- Group work for both adults and children
- Drama, play, sand and art therapy
- Parenting program
- Providing information on services available in the area
- General support
- Home visits
To be eligible, a family must have a child attending Goodna State, Goodna Pre-School or Goodna Special School and not currently be a client of the Department of Child Safety.
Families can contact the service direct or may be referred by any of the collaborative partners listed below.
The family is assessed by a core group of relevant members of the collaborative partnership who will make a decision on whether GIFS can offer assistance. Once accepted into the support program, the family sets the goals it would like to achieve. The GIFS team works with the core group to help the family move towards achieving its goals.
