24-hour Care in Secure Special Wings
Our 12 aged care facilities around Queensland all offer special care wings to cater for people looking for dementia aged care for either short term stays or permanent care.
Our special care wings are secure, allowing people to move about the wing as they wish, without the risk of getting lost, and cater for the unique needs of people living with dementia and other challenging behaviours. Depending on your circumstances, we can also accommodate people living with dementia in our general wings.
Our highly trained team of registered nurses, client services staff, allied health professionals and hospitality staff support people of all ages and stages of dementia to live well 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We get to know our clients so well that they’re like family. We know how to comfort them when they’re agitated and what makes them happy.
Dementia Friendly Facilities
Our aged care facilities feel like home, and our dementia wings have been designed to cater specifically for dementia aged care.
Thoughtful Interior Design
In our newer facilities & refurbishments:
- Way-finding fabrics and artwork at lift areas and nurses stations help with orientation
- 30% of the seating is a different colour to help identify where to sit
- Neutral floor colours ensure flow when surface materials
- Pattered furniture ensures it can be easily identified in contrast to floor colour, this even extends to chair legs so furniture is not seen to be floating
Many of our special care wings also include sensory objects and sensory gardens to offer stimulation for people living with dementia. We also value the importance of music therapy, such as silent discos, and reminiscence in our dementia aged care activity programs.
Our special care wings offer private single rooms with an ensuite bathroom, with access to a variety of small lounge rooms and meal areas, as well as landscaped gardens.
These little things can have a big effect on a person’s independence and ability to feel safe and comfortable in their surroundings.
Our Approach to Dementia Aged Care
Deciding to move into a residential aged care facility can be a painful decision for people living with dementia, their carers and families.
Touring a nursing home while you are in the earlier stages of dementia may help you to have clearer views about your preferences for the care you receive later on.
If you’re considering and aged care facility and you’re not sure if permanent care is right for you, you can try our residential respite care services that allow you to move in temporarily. You’ll be able to see what living in residential aged care is like, and if having 24 hour a day, 7 day a week care improves your health and well-being.
