Temporary day and night respite accommodation in one of our ten aged care facilities in Brisbane, Gold Coast and wider Queensland.

Residential Respite Care

Short term care within an aged care facility

Short term stays in aged care facilities are available through residential respite services. This service is typically used by seniors, but can be used by people under the age of 65 (under 50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders) in some circumstances.

Residential respite stays typically last for a few days to a number of weeks. You can either book your stay:

  • In advance, if your carer is going away on a planned holiday or travelling interstate
  • On short notice, if you’ve been in hospital and need more complex help than your carer can provide, or your carer is unwell

The government sets a maximum stay of 63 days but this can be extended in special circumstances.

Reasons to Use Residential Respite

If you have been considering moving into an aged care facility, using residential respite care allows you to move temporarily into a facility that you are interested in, to see what it’s like to live there. You will be living with other residents, be cared for by the same staff, and can get involved in the various activities on offer.

Carer Benefits

Carers can take advantage of residential respite services, safe in the knowledge that the person you care for is well looked after and safe while you go on holiday or are otherwise unable to provide care. Our staff are there 24-hours a day to provide assistance with eating, dressing, nursing, activities, and anything else that is needed.

Ozcare’s residential respite services are available to people who have been approved for residential care by the Australian Government’s Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). ACAT will discuss your needs, provide you with information about your care options, and advise you of your eligibility for subsidised services. We offer residential respite at each of our aged care facilities in Queensland.

Respite residents pay a basic daily fee of 85% of the single basic Age Pension which is payable a week in advance. If you have booked respite at short notice we will work out a payment arrangement with you.

If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for subsidised services. Contact the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to find out more.

Ozcare’s residential respite care includes:

  • Help with everyday tasks such as moving around, dressing, and eating
  • 24-hour nursing care
  • Care in our specialised dementia wing, if required
  • Five meals every day, freshly prepared on-site
  • Social activities
  • Hospitality services such as cleaning, laundry, and basic toiletries
  • Your bed, linen, locker, and a chair

You are welcome to bring your own toiletries if you prefer. We will also provide you with a checklist of things to bring for your stay which includes clothes, medications, and personal items.
