Women and children escaping domestic violence in Ozcare's women's refuges will be able to put their best foot forward thanks to a generous donation of shoes from Balance Podiatry.
The shoes will be a welcome gift to the women, who often arrive at the refuges with only the clothes on their back after fleeing abusive partners.
Ozcare Women's Refuge Co-ordinator Marnie Went said the shoe donations, which will be provided to Ozcare's five women's refuges in Queensland every year, would go a long way in helping women put their life back together.
"The final decision to leave an abusive partner partners is often made quickly if the right opportunity presents itself to take the children and leave," Marnie said.
"Because of this, many of our clients haven't had time to pack their belongings when they decide to come to us, and they find themselves without enough clothes or shoes to wear in the weeks and months afterwards, when things are toughest."
That's where Balance Podiatry comes in.
"The donation from Balance Podiatry will really help them on their journey to make a new life for themselves and their children, free from domestic violence," Marnie said.
Balance Podiatry Regional Manager for QLD and NT Bec Rice said they were thrilled to be able to donate more than 40 pairs of women’s and children’s shoes to Ozcare.
“We’ve provided Ozcare with a wide range of footwear options for all different occasions including dress shoes, work shoes, casual shoes, and children’s shoes,” Bec said.
“By donating to Ozcare, we can trust that our footwear donation will reach families throughout Queensland when they need it most.”
