This week is Homelessness Prevention Week, a week where we shine the spotlight on a group of people who are often hidden, with no place to call home.
Anyone at any time in their life can find themselves homeless, in fact homelessness is increasing in our community. According to Homelessness Prevention there are currently 105,000 people experiencing homelessness every night in Australia, and many more living in insecure housing, one step away from being homeless.
Many people experience homelessness through no fault of their own. The cause can be as simple as a mother and children having to flee domestic violence, someone losing their job or an injury or accident. A lot of these people are ‘hidden homeless’, moving from one place to the next without a stable home.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. Ozcare offers services all over the state to homeless men, women and families, and those at risk of homelessness. . These services aren’t just about putting a roof on your head, you’ll also get support to find permanent accommodation and get your life back on track.

Happy Feet for Homeless
In addition to the services we provide year round, this year we organised a sock drive to keep homeless feet warm this winter. Thank you to everyone who donated - we were overwhelmed by the amount of donations from very generous clients, staff, and community members, which we will deliver to our homeless hostels for men, women and children this week.
As many homeless people spend a lot of time on the feet, they have a particular need for good quality socks, particularly in the cold of winter. These donations will help them to keep clean, dry and warm. That’s something we can all feel good about!
