Ozheart of the Month - Mary Hopf

Ozheart of the Month - Mary Hopf

Each and every day, we at Ozcare make a positive difference in the lives of others, and we are proud to honour and recognise our most outstanding staff with the Ozheart program.

Over the past six months it’s been very special to share the stories of our Ozheart winners; what led them to Ozcare, what they enjoy most about their jobs, and why they strive to go that little bit further.

All of our winners have been very humble and it’s telling that they all see themselves as part of a bigger team, committed to providing the best care possible to our clients.

This month, the accolade for the Ozheart Award goes to Mary Hopf from our Ipswich branch. Mary’s nominations were hard to go past; Mary recently turned 70 but shows no signs of slowing down.

Mary says she’s often asked when she’s going to retire. “My answer is always: I will know when it is time, but at the moment I think I have lots to offer my clients and lots to offer Ozcare.”

A valued staff member for the past seven years, Mary puts 100% into every working shift for her clients. Nominated by her supervisor and a colleague, both acknowledge Mary is a great ambassador for Ozcare.

Mary goes out of her way to put a smile on her client’s faces, and loves to take them on social outings. Whether it’s fishing, accompanying them to Government House for the over 100’s birthday recognitions, or just taking them by the hand and making them feel that they are the most important person in the room.

Mary is also known for coming back to the office and advocating for her clients. Happily sharing with her supervisor what we can do better, Mary strives to improve the care of each and every client.

A daughter of an elderly client living with dementia rang the office to share her appreciation of Mary’s work. “Over the years I have watched my mother slowly slip away from me. I am very grateful I now have Ozcare to help with her care, but I am even more grateful that you sent me Mary. It has been such a long time since I heard my mother laugh and sing. Mary showed me that happiness is in the moment.”

Nominated by a colleague for having the biggest heart and being one of the most caring people they know, Mary is an extremely worthy Ozheart recipient.

If you know of a staff member that should be commended for their work, nominate them today for an Ozheart award.
