Ozheart of the Month - Ted Sheehan

Ozheart of the Month - Ted Sheehan

A big congratulations to Ted Sheehan, Bus Driver at our Day Respite Centre in Burleigh Heads on winning this month’s Ozheart award. Ted is our first winner that was nominated by a client.

The nomination was made by Margaret Fletcher, who is fondly known at our centre as “Fletch”. Her nomination was worded so beautifully we would like to share it with you word for word.

“I attend Ozcare Day Respite Centre on Tuesdays, and occasionally on Thursdays. Ted drives the Ozcare bus, gathering up the clients who attend the day respite centre at Burleigh Waters, Matilda Street.

I am the last to catch the bus, so I don’t see what Ted does then, however I am last off the bus so I DO get to see how very caring Ted is to each woman, who all have different needs.

Some women need help to cross the road and some need help to reach the door of their homes. Ted treats each person as if they are the only one needing help. I see him gathering up mail for some, putting out their rubbish bins, or taking in rubbish bins, even binning rubbish… and then each person receives a hug.

How special that makes each one feel, especially those who are living on their own. Ted is quite unassuming… he is gentle, caring, always willing to help, and I enjoy his humour. I have no hesitation in nominating Ted for an Ozheart award.”

What a very special nomination! Fletch speaks the truth, Ted is well known at the centre for putting a smile on everyone’s faces. He is a hard worker with a heart of gold.

Ted’s job is to make sure our clients who need help getting to the centre arrive safely and get home safely. This is a very important job as the safety and wellbeing of our clients is central to everything we do.

Ted also helps with the maintenance of the centre to make sure it is in good working order and he tends to the beautiful gardens, enjoyed by both staff and clients. Ted can often be seen getting involved and joining in on activities with clients and he is known to compere at the staff Christmas concerts, entertaining everyone with a song or two.

Ted’s co-workers describe him as generous, approachable, welcoming, helpful, easy to talk to, humorous, accepting, empathetic, engaging and overall great to work with.

Clients tell us he is wonderful, caring, happy, pleasant, huggable, obliging, a good driver, a joy to see and everything the centre needs.

Congratulations Ted. It is evident you go over and above your duties and your kind heart, caring nature and sense of humour makes a difference.
