Summer Ozheart Winner – Emma Orr

Blog Summer Ozheart Winner Emma Orr

Our heartfelt congratulations go to Emma Orr, Care Assistant at Ozanam Villa Clontarf on winning the Summer Ozheart Award!

Emma had some stiff competition this quarter, The Leadership Team had four very worthy finalists to pick from and we would like to applaud Amanda Brown, Occupational Therapist at Mackay, Roy Broomhall, Care Assistant at Noosa Heads Aged Care Facility and Stella Wilson, Registered Nurse at Noosa Heads Aged Care Facility, for their wonderful work and superb nominations for having a positive impact on the lives of our clients.

However, there can only be one winner, and the majority vote went to Emma Orr for going the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia. Emma works in ‘Wattle’ the special care wing at Clontarf. Hesitant to work in Wattle initially, Emma has taken the opportunity and run with it.

She goes above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of her residents. She has always been known for being excellent with residents, but throughout October and November she went all out for them. In the lead up to Halloween and Melbourne Cup celebrations, she worked on costumes for the Wattle residents, going to op shops in her own time, asking friends and families for bits and pieces to create outfits to ensure all of her residents were dressed up and enjoyed a fantastic time.

The families of the residents in Wattle are always commenting on Emma’s terrific work. So much so that the wives of the residents in Wattle have nominated her for an award through Queensland Carers and had no hesitation in recommending Emma for the Ozheart award.

“Emma is gentle, kind and compassionate, she treats my husband and all the other residents with dignity, respect and a genuine smile and laugh that makes them all feel relaxed and accepted. Nothing seems too difficult for Emma to handle, although you know at times when challenging behaviours present, it cannot be easy. I have full confidence, when I’m not with my husband and Emma is on, that he is being totally cared for in the way we would all like to be treated in the same circumstances.”

Emma, your work is amazing. You go beyond your daily duties to provide fun and assistance to the team at Ozanam Villa. You do this with energy and passion. You’ve been with us for 11 years and 5 months and we thank you for your wonderful service and making a difference every day!
