Did you know we have over 400 volunteers in our services and we are looking to recruit more?
The kindness of our volunteers has a ripple effect at Ozcare. Their generous gift of time helps us go the extra mile for the people we care for and greatly assists our staff.
This year we thanked volunteers for another “picture perfect year” with double passes to the movies. In recognition of National Volunteer Week in May, we thought it was appropriate to shine the spotlight on the wonderful group of volunteers we have at our newest aged care facility in Hervey Bay.
This 50 strong volunteer group, many of who have been with us since the commissioning stage in September last year, have a significant presence at the facility.
They are a warm, friendly bunch that really help give a family feel to the facility. Their tasks are varied but instrumental in helping the facility to run smoothly.
From helping offer a concierge service to single-handedly operating the facility coffee shop 7 days a week, they truly make a difference.
We’d like to introduce you to four of our very loyal and supportive volunteers from Hervey Bay so you see why we are so appreciative of everything our volunteers do.
Meet Barbara (pictured far right), she’s turning 91 in July and proudly volunteers her JP services twice a week with Ozcare. Barbara also oversees the library and assists with activities.
Barbara says, “If you’re lonely or have time on your hands why not help people? It keeps me lively and active!”
Mother and daughter duo, Michelle (pictured far left) and Brenda (pictured middle), decided to volunteer together at Ozcare. They oversee the operation of the facility coffee shop and volunteer 5 days a week including most weekends. Michelle’s husband and son also volunteer at the facility.
“It’s like one big happy family, we love it here! We feel really appreciated by management, staff, residents and their families.”
Meet Andrew (pictured middle), former taxi driver and now a volunteer concierge at Ozcare. Andrew helps people get settled in and is the go to person for any questions. He also helps out on the technical side of things, setting up phone lines, Netflix and DVDs for residents.
“I’m a patient, people person; I had to be as a taxi driver. I have all the time in the world for the elderly – volunteering gives me a happy purpose.”
If you know of anyone looking to volunteer, why not tell them about Ozcare. We are always looking for volunteers in our aged care facilities, day respite centres, homeless hostels and other services to assist us to go over and above for our residents and clients to ensure we are delivering the best care and support possible.
